I'm the guy who oversees the project and does his best to give it direction, however I have no illusions that it is really all the quality people around me I have been so fortunate to be associated with that make this a truly great project. It was fun at first with Dmitry and Alex. After they left I knew I really needed to pick up the pace learning C++. However since my time is often so limited it was very fortunate I could sponsor Andras Mantia as lead developer as well as bring on other really talented volunteer developers. Some people like Robert Nickel, Marc Britton, Jason Hanley and too many others to mention have been not only helpful but encouraging. I originally got involved with the poroject to help develop an editor on KDE that I could enhance my professional web development efforts with. Since then it has become a labor of love. I find myself taking time with Quanta development issues and studying QT/KDE docs and developer information just because I really like it. There is no more powerful motivation to do something than loving doing it. I hope that you enjoy the program and also that you can find some small way to give back. I guess you could say I have found a large way. I sincerely want to provide the very best tool anywhere that any person with access to the internet can get for free. It is my deepest hope that we can empower those people in the world who struggle daily to make a better life for themselves with our development tools. When you think about it there really aren't that many good opportunities to positively impact millions of people and potentially move them towards new income opportunities. Having been well to do as well as receiving kindness from others when I was financially devastated I guess I am just paying forward. I also really believe in the crucial importance of freedom and choice. I believe that most business people are good and kind and generous. You have to be for the most part to build the team you need to succeed. However I also believe there are incredibly evil corporate entities too. Not evil in the sense that they set out to do terrible deeds... Evil in the sense that they are committed to putting their needs far enough above yours that unless the conflict ceases to service their needs yours don't matter. It is the faceless nature of the souless beast that only seeks to ravage the most possible money from your pocket. It is like the tax collectors of biblical times. They are referred to as evil because they bought a commission to collect taxes and then collected whatever they could from the population and kept their percent. There was no motivation for equity but there was for abuse. The software industry today is dominated by a company with such characteristics and you know who I'm talking about. People like me are called zealots but we have a sincere belief that if any entity manages to take todays information explosion and lock it up pay per view, say what you can and can't run on your own computer and wrest control of all data and communication then we will leave a nightmare for posterity. Just imagine a bad sci-fi flick where the beast is a giant monster sucking up everything in sight and dispatching minions to enslave the world's population to service it. I think this is a starting point to imagine what happens if alternatives are not provided by the community. I hope to free many web developers from the clutches of the beast by providing a superior alternative thus empowering people and keeping the beast in check. On occasion I see references that open source developers "don't care about users". We may not be able to afford you personal tutoring but I can say for sure that the developers I know care a lot more than soneone punching a clock. I don't consider myself to be a hot shot. I am just thankful daily that I have the good fortune to have a team of very sharp people who share the same vision as I do. I start every day with a humble wish to be worthy of the challenge before me and a read of my Quanta emails. Thanks for visiting my page. |
